Comodynes Convenient Cosmetics: Self-Tanning Towelettes Review

I finally got around to writing a review on Comodynes Convenient Cosmetics Self-Tanning Towelettes. I've tried them 3 different times and still wasn't happy with the pictures but I'm going to post them now anyways! COMODYNES is a brand that sells products that are easy to use, fast and convenient, practical, efficient and economical. This was my first time hearing about this brand and their products look pretty good. They have a few self-tanning products as well as face masks, different make-up remover towelettes and other skin care products that you can find at their website here. My friend Charisma gave me these because they were a part of a gift basket she won but she has dark skin (she actually uses a whitening soap) so she didn’t want these lol! Now a little (okay it's actually really long) story about my life experience with trying to be tan…

I’ve felt pressured to be tan my entire life. It all started with my dad, I remember being maybe 10 years old and my dad would make fun of my pale legs and encourage me to tan…we would even tan together by the pool in our backyard! Getting older and already having this idea in my head that "tan is better" I would compare myself to other girls wishing I was as tan as they were. Living in San Diego it’s pretty easy to get sun year-around, so I would lay out frequently in my backyard...but never achieving the tan skin I wanted. In high school, especially during summers, I would make sure to lay outside for 30 minutes to 1 hour almost everyday hoping to gradually develop a tan (since I do burn easy I would take it slow). Even hanging out with friends would revolve around tanning... “lets tan in your backyard” “lets got to beach and tan” “lets go to the pool and tan” TAN TAN TAN. I went to my first tanning salon before prom when I was 16 because I still wasn’t “tan” enough. I loved the tanning salon because I HATED tan lines, but I didn’t go too frequently and I STILL didn’t have the perfect tan I dreamed of...
WELL, things changed two years ago, shortly after my 20th birthday. I went to a Padres game, we were in the sun and I forgot to bring sunscreen so I went to first aid to get some and put it on. Later that night I noticed I had all these tiny red bumps all over my arms were my skin was exposed to the sun. Then these bumps got EXTREMELY ITCHY I had never felt anything like it before. I was so uncomfortable and would wake up in the middle of the night clawing at my skin. The bumps and itchiness went away in about two days. I thought it was really weird and just some freak thing so a week later I went to the tanning salon...later that night I developed the same rash of tiny red bumps ALL OVER my body (except face) and was itchy like crazy! I was so miserable so wanted to scratch my skin off but it went away in about a day. So I stopped tanning and going out in the sun for a couple of weeks. Then I went to the park with no sunscreen with my arms exposed to see if I would developed the same itchy rash again and I did!

Finally I went to my dermatologist about it and he thought it was an allergy to the sunscreen I was using. After testing my skin in the sun with different sunscreens he recommended and also without sunscreen, I would still develop a rash every time my skin was exposed to sunlight for more than 30 minutes. We came to the conclusion that I developed a sun allergy. He said its common in young women and children, can go away/come back at any time and there is no cure, just products to soothe the rash.
I couldn’t believe I had become allergic to the sun! After so many years of trying to be tan, my body decided enough is enough. Like it was trying to tell me: “HEY YOU’RE NEVER GOING TO BE TAN STOP TRYING” So I did. I’ve finally accepted that it’s okay to have pale skin. It’s been a struggle, especially because a lot of events and activities take place outside. So I’m either always wearing jeans and light jacket to cover my skin or I’m hiding under any shady spot I can find! I am happier now that I don’t feel pressured to be tan. More importantly I know it’s better for my health and beauty in the long run anyways! Why should I even risk the chance of getting skin cancer? Why should I tan my skin and be more likely to develop early wrinkles!? My skin is going to be beautiful when I am older :) I’m pale and proud of it!
On to the review now! Even though I've accepted being pale I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try out these Self-Tanning Towelettes, they would fade anyways but could be useful for special occasions. I like that these are individually wrapped towelettes, not a messy lotion or spray. They are supposed to provide an even, safe and clean tan on face and body in just 3 hours, giving a natural healthy skin tone. Recommended for all skin types and paraben-free. Their formula, with a moisturizing complex, eliminates the feeling of tightness and keeps the skin soft and does not contain sun filters. The active ingredient is Dehydroxiacetone (DHA) which is a natural sugar without any side effects. The towelette definitely smells like a tanning lotion and reminds me of the days I use to go to the tanning salon haha! I don’t mind this smell but other people might not like it. This 8 Pack is $13.99 on their website. One towelette does NOT cover your entire body, one covered both my arms then dried up. Another time it covered the bottom half of my legs then dried up. The first time I tried the towelette I just swatched the inside on of my arm (later I realized that wasn't the best place to do a swatch cause you could totally the tan line lol) Here's a picture of what it looked like:
So it definitely did what it is suppose to...make me tanner...however after trying the towelette a second time all over my arms I found that they are hard to apply evenly. I really made an effort to make sure not to miss a single area on my arms but after 3 hours letting the tan develop, there was one streak and a patch that were not tan. The third time I applied them to the bottom half of my legs, below the knee. Again I really tried hard not miss a single spot but then there was another streak which you can faintly see in the photo below. I don't know my legs are weird and photos looks like only the top is tanner but it really is all tan.
Are you still there? Sorry this was really long, if you made it through the whole thing you're awesome! In conclusion, these self-tanning towelettes work but I found them hard to apply evenly!

Thanks so so much for reading, have an wonderful rest of the weekend!
